Moisturizers are great for keeping skin hydrated while protecting its moisture barrier, but it can be an ideal base for makeup application as well. Thoroughly cleansed and well-moisturized skin is a remarkable canvas for makeup.
So why do you need to apply moisturizer before makeup? Here goes:
Get smoother skin
One of the most effective ways to apply makeup is to ensure the foundation and/or concealer goes on evenly and smoothly. That is why you need to moisturize your skin with a gel-cream or cream that hydrates and gives the skin a more polished appearance. You will get a flawless and natural glow. Tinted products go on easily and blend well with your skin without creasing or flaking.
Regulates oil production
Applying makeup to oily skin is a tricky endeavor, because it can dissolve off the skin quickly, without leaving any trace behind. Using the right moisturizer (should be absolutely oil-free), you can prevent the slipping of the makeup off your skin, and make it more matted prior to application. You are creating a shine-free foundation that lets your make up to stay on longer.
Covers blemishes and scars
Using moisturizing agents like a BB cream ensures that it nourishes your skin, and has makeup-like qualities as well. BB cream can conceal your blemishes before you put on makeup. It can be used to hide blackheads, whiteheads, dark spots, scars, splotchy skin, pimples, etc. Some creams also minimize appearance of pores, even skin tone, and prevent sunburn.
Protection from sun
Exposure to sunlight for a long time can cause your skin health to deteriorate as UV rays cause significant damage. Moreover, it might cause early onset of signs of aging. Always check to see if your moisturizer is formulated with SPF (sun protection factor) – a good moisturizer has SPF of at least 30. Apply it right before putting on foundation, tinted moisturizer or concealer, and it instantly forms a barrier against UV rays. Moisturizing prior to makeup also helps reduce the look of visible sun-damage, revealing radiant, more even-toned, younger-looking skin.
Moisturizing is necessary even if you are simply redoing your makeup (redoing and touch-ups aren’t the same). Using a facial moisturizer will hydrate and smooth out your skin, giving you the ideal complexion for applying your makeup look of choice. Freshly moisturized skin ensures your skin looks brighter and flawless. So even if you are in a hurry to get out of the door, skipping out on your moisturizing routine is a strict no-no.
